Try/on Life Community Farm offers an educational program that hosts workshops, events, and meetings for the public, all designed to enhance Portland's sustainable participation with the ecosystem.
Try/on Life Community Farm is a collective with a diversity of backgrounds, skills, and approaches: from natural building to environmental law, gardening and food preservation to community activism, permaculture farming to multi-media artisans. From this base, we have developed an interdisciplinary and experiential educational program designed to build critical reflection, collaborative skills, and practical training in the art and science of social and ecological responsibility.
Try/on Life Community Education Program
TLC Farm has already hosted a number of educational events and workshops. Beginning with our participation in the 2004 Village Building Convergence, TLC Farm has had numerous natural building workshops, including building a cob oven, cob benches and a rocket stove. Other past workshops include making medicinal tinctures from local plants, beginning felting, and introduction to biodiesel.
In addition, many students, ranging from fifth graders to university students, have come to the Farm in association with their classes. Students and classes from Sunnyside Environmental School, Portland State University, Lewis & Clark College, and Friendly House, Inc. have all visited and enjoyed the educational offerings at TLC Farm
