Try/on Life Community Farm offers an educational program that hosts workshops, events, and meetings for the public, all designed to enhance Portland's sustainable participation with the ecosystem.
Try/on Life Community Farm is a collective with a diversity of backgrounds, skills, and approaches: from natural building to environmental law, gardening and food preservation to community activism, permaculture farming to multi-media artisans. From this base, we have developed an interdisciplinary and experiential educational program designed to build critical reflection, collaborative skills, and practical training in the art and science of social and ecological responsibility.
Experiential Education Programs
Tryon Life Community Farm invites teachers and group leaders to bring their students to the Farm for hands-on educational programs exploring many different facets of ecological sustainability. Classes taught by on-site instructors provide participants of all ages a holistic view of their place in the world, aiding them in becoming active participants in ecological decision making. TLC Farm's 7-acres of land includes indoor and outdoor classroom space, an acre of cultivated garden, and is connected to the education center at Tryon Creek State Park via a network of nature trails.
Our curriculum complements the Park's educational program, and is designed to be tailored to accommodate the knowledge and skill level of students. As an evolving organization, TLC Farm encourages teachers to participate
in course design.
TLC Farm's curriculum currently includes classes in introductory permaculture design, soil ecology (as related to agriculture), energy sources & systems, natural building, and native & invasive plant identification.
TLC Farm is a non-profit organization sustained by donation support. We suggest a $3-5 donation per student. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
