able to save the Farm.

Your donations are tax-deductible! TLC Farm has received its 501(c)3 determination letter from the IRS (view it here) confirming that all donations since April 2004 are fully deductible. Our EIN is 20-1887272.
On March 31, after months of hard work and
negotiations, TLC Farm successfully finalized acquisition of the
purchase option for the land it occupies from
Brownstone Homes, a development firm that planned to
build 23 luxury homes on this sensitive site.
TLC Farm is now in a contractual agreement to buy this
land and hold it in trust as a community resource for
all to enjoy. Our first major milestone has been met;
now, we turn to the next task: raising the funds
necessary to complete the land purchase.
Over the next months we will be fulfilling the
terms of the purchase agreement, paying $4000 per
month towards the purchase cost of $1.425 million, due
in January 2006.
There are a variety of opportunities for organizations and individuals to get involved:
- Adopt-a-Month. Take on responsibility for fundraising one month's $4000 earnest money, and we'll make sure to call that month by your name in your honor. This is a great way to make a big difference right away.
- General donations. Your generosity keeps our operations going. Send a check made out to "TLC Farm" to 11640 SW Boones Ferry Rd, or donate online. (TLC Farm has filed for 501(c)(3) recognition from the IRS, and
tax-exemption is retroactive to donations made since we organized in April 2004.)
- Friends of the Farm. Our sustainer program -- from as little as $10 a month -- verifies our ability to depend on regular community support, a key element of our long-term budget. And with our convenient online registration system, it's easier than ever to join in!
- Equity as security. Equity in property (and other assets) can be used as security to allow us to get low-interest loans from sympathetic foundations.
- Contacts. Real estate transactions are about relationships. We need to build a solid team of well-connected, experienced allies willing to engage with the variety of institutions, financers, and stakeholders involved, with the success of our long-term vision as their collective aim.
We can do all this because of the broad support you've
demonstrated. Hundreds of volunteers, participants, and
donors have proven that this is truly a grassroots
effort with wide-ranging appeal. That translates
directly into financial capacity: TLC Farm's land
acquisition campaign already includes both public
and private partners.
For example, Metro's Greenspace Acquisition Program and the Friends
of Tryon Creek State Park have both expressed interest
in financially supporting TLC Farm's land acquisition.
Combined with individual contributions and loans great
and small, we
are moving forward with increased community
involvement.
This beautiful land tells its own story. We invite
you to come walk through the herb and vegetable
gardens, visit our naturally built structures, and see
the inspiring potential for furthering ecological
sustainability. Call to schedule a tour!
