LOWER NEHALEM
COMMUNITY TRUST
beading the necklace of people and place
December 14, 2004
Dear Friends Concerned with the Future of Tyron Creek Farm,
The Lower Nehalem Community Trust is a non-profit rural community land trust located on the north Oregon Coast due west of Portland. Our first project is the purchase of Alder Creek Farm that lies between the urban growth boundaries of two towns in our valley. There we are involved in both native habitat restoration (both estuary and salmon creek) and building sustainable community through local food ecology demonstration gardens and greenhouse. We know well the importance of maintaining the long term health of our precious community, both wild and human, within the context of development pressures. It is vital that we all work creatively with the land left available to us - especially near towns and cities - to help it find the highest and best use for the good of the whole.
The Tyron Creek Farm is providing an exciting and important demonstration of the possibilities of sustainable land preservation and human mix in an urban setting. It is vital that we as a wider regional community support this type of project. That the project is adjacent to (almost surrounded by) the beautiful Tyron Creek State Park makes it all the more important that it not be carved into the usual homesite development patterns.
We trust that creative win/win solutions will prevail to benefit all concerned with this immediate property, as well as those of us within the wider community who work on similar projects in our own area.
Please feel free to contact us for further information or support.
Sincerely,
Lane deMoll
